About Landmarks & Monuments

London's landmarks tell the story of a city that has been a seat of power, trade, and culture for nearly two thousand years. Many of the most famous sites are concentrated along the Thames, making it possible to visit several in a single walk.

Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament are the most recognisable buildings in London, standing at the north end of Westminster Bridge. Across the road, Westminster Abbey has hosted every coronation since 1066. Further along the river, St Paul's Cathedral dominates the City skyline with its iconic dome — climb to the top for panoramic views.

Tower of London is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has served as a royal palace, prison, and fortress over its 950-year history. The Crown Jewels are housed here, and the Yeoman Warder tours are among the best free guided tours in the city. Nearby, Tower Bridge is one of the most photographed structures in London, with a glass-floored walkway offering views straight down to the river.

Royal residences are another highlight. Buckingham Palace opens its State Rooms to visitors each summer, and the Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place regularly throughout the year. Kensington Palace offers a quieter royal experience, set within the gardens of Kensington and Hyde Park. For maritime history, Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, the Cutty Sark, and the Royal Observatory are all within walking distance of each other.
