World-famous wax museum on Marylebone Road with lifelike figures of celebrities, royals, sports stars and film characters across immersive themed zones
Madame Tussauds has occupied its Marylebone Road home since 1884. With over 250 wax figures across interactive zones, it goes well beyond models behind ropes — you pose with the Royal Family, step onto the pitch with football legends and walk into a Marvel battle scene.
The museum moves through themed areas at your own pace, from the A-List Party room to Star Wars and the Spirit of London ride. Allow at least two hours. Booking online is significantly cheaper than the door price.
Madame Tussauds is laid out as a one-way route through a series of themed zones. You start with the A-List Party — a velvet-rope room where figures of musicians, actors and TV presenters stand in cocktail-party poses designed for photos. From there you move through Sport, Culture and the Royal Family section, where the entire senior line-up stands on a palace balcony.
The second half of the museum shifts to full immersive experiences. Marvel Super Heroes puts you in the middle of a battle scene before feeding into a 4D cinema. The Star Wars zone recreates sixteen film settings with astonishing detail. The Spirit of London ride rounds things off with a gentle black-cab journey through centuries of city history.
The Chamber of Horrors has been part of Madame Tussauds since Marie Tussaud first exhibited her collection of French Revolution death masks in the early 1800s. The modern version is a walk-through scare experience featuring notorious criminals and dimly lit corridors. It is not suitable for young children.
Live actors occasionally appear in the Chamber during peak periods and Halloween season. The scares are jump-based rather than graphic, but the tight spaces and sudden noises can be intense. You can skip this section entirely if you prefer — a clearly signed bypass route takes you straight to the next zone.
The busiest times are weekends, school holidays and the middle of the day. If you visit on a weekday morning, especially during term time, you will have far fewer people in your photos and shorter waits at the interactive zones. The first entry slot of the day is almost always the quietest.
Your ticket includes everything inside the museum — there are no extra charges for the Marvel 4D experience, Star Wars zone or Spirit of London ride. A gift shop and café sit at the exit. Regent's Park is a two-minute walk north if you want fresh air afterwards.
Online prices are significantly cheaper than walk-up — book at least a day ahead for the best rate
The first entry of the day has the fewest visitors. You will get clear photos with every figure and walk through the Star Wars zone almost alone.
Walk-up prices can be double the online rate. Book at least 24 hours ahead for the cheapest tickets. Merlin annual passes also include entry.
Many visitors rush through to reach Star Wars. The Marvel 4D cinema and interactive photo setups are worth at least 20 minutes on their own.
The Chamber of Horrors uses low lighting, tight spaces and sudden noises. Children under 8 are likely to find it frightening. A bypass route is clearly signed.
Baker Street station is steps away. The Sherlock Holmes Museum is a 5-minute walk and Regent's Park is directly opposite for a picnic or a break.
