Interactive DreamWorks walkthrough adventure with live actors, 4D rides and fairy-tale fun — ideal for families on the South Bank
Shrek's Adventure is a fully immersive walkthrough experience set inside County Hall on the South Bank — part live theatre, part theme-park ride, and entirely built around the DreamWorks universe of Shrek, Donkey, Puss in Boots and the rest of Far Far Away.
Led by a cast of live actors, you are guided through ten fairy-tale themed rooms before boarding a magical 4D bus ride through the swamp and beyond. The whole experience lasts around 75 minutes and is designed for families with children aged 6 to 12, though younger visitors enjoy it too.
Shrek's Adventure is not a museum or a static exhibition — it is a live, guided walkthrough where actors in character lead groups of visitors through a series of themed rooms. The story begins when your tour bus to Far Far Away breaks down and you are rerouted through a series of increasingly chaotic fairy-tale scenarios. Each room features a different DreamWorks character, from the Muffin Man's bakery to the Fairy Godmother's potion workshop, with actors improvising around the audience.
The centrepiece is the 4D bus ride, a motion-simulator experience with wind, water spray and seat movement synced to an animated film on the screen ahead. It lasts only a few minutes but it is the highlight for most visitors, especially younger children. The entire walkthrough takes between 60 and 90 minutes depending on the pace of the group.
The experience is designed primarily for families with children aged 6 to 12, though younger children can enjoy it with supervision. It is dark in places and some of the live-actor scenes involve sudden noises and dramatic lighting, which may startle very young visitors. There is no option to skip individual rooms once the tour has started, so consider this if your child is sensitive to dark or loud environments.
Groups are timed and enter every few minutes, so the experience never feels overcrowded despite the compact rooms. Photography is allowed in most areas, though flash is discouraged during the live performances. A professional photo is taken at the start and available to purchase at the end in the gift shop, which stocks a full range of DreamWorks merchandise.
Shrek's Adventure sits within the County Hall complex alongside the SEA LIFE London Aquarium and the London Dungeon. Combination tickets covering two or three of these attractions offer meaningful savings and you can spread visits across multiple days. The London Eye is directly outside, making this corner of the South Bank one of the most attraction-dense spots in the city.
There are several cafes and restaurants within County Hall itself, and the South Bank food market is a short walk east along the river. For a quieter break, Jubilee Gardens sits just behind the building with open green space and views of the London Eye. Allow 15 minutes before your entry slot for security screening and the short queue at the entrance.

The first entry of the day has the smallest groups and the shortest wait. Weekday mornings outside school holidays are the quietest times.
Buy a combo ticket with the London Eye or SEA LIFE Aquarium to save money. You can split visits across different days within the validity period.
Some rooms are dark with sudden loud noises and dramatic lighting. Let younger children know in advance so they are not caught off guard.
The exit funnels through a large DreamWorks shop. Decide before you enter whether you want to buy the professional photo taken at the start.
There is no food or drink inside the experience itself. Grab something at the South Bank food stalls or County Hall cafes before your time slot.
