Walking on the Roof
The Dare Skywalk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is one of the most unusual experiences available at any football ground in the world. Rather than simply touring the inside of the stadium, participants climb to the very top of the building and walk along the outside edge of the roof, 46.8 metres above the pitch below.
The experience was designed to make the stadium a destination beyond matchdays, and it is one of the highest visitor attractions in London. The rooftop position, 46.8 metres above the 62,850-seat stadium, offers unobstructed 360-degree views across the city.
What Happens During the Skywalk
The experience begins inside the stadium, where participants are fitted with a full-body harness and given a safety briefing. Once kitted out, you climb to the roof level via internal stairs and walkways.
On the roof, a narrow walkway runs along the edge of the stadium with a glass floor section that lets you look straight down to the pitch below. Participants are clipped to a safety rail at all times but have freedom to move, stop and look around. Guides accompany each group and point out landmarks visible across the London skyline.
The walk itself takes roughly 30 minutes on the roof, though the total experience including briefing and kit-up is around 90 minutes.
The Controlled Descent
The finale of the Dare Skywalk is a controlled abseil-style descent down the exterior of the stadium. Participants are lowered on a rope system from the roof to the ground, covering the full 46.8 metres. The descent is not a free fall. It is a steady, guided lowering that takes a couple of minutes.
For those who prefer not to do the descent, there is an option to return inside the stadium via the internal route instead.
Views From the Top
On a clear day, the views from the stadium roof are impressive. You can see the towers of the City of London, the Shard, the London Eye, Wembley Stadium's arch and the hills of North London stretching into the distance. The elevated position on the ridge in Tottenham means the views extend further than you might expect for a building of this height.
Who Can Do It
The Skywalk is open to anyone aged 8 and over who meets the weight and fitness requirements. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The experience is weather-dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled in high winds, heavy rain or thunderstorms.
Participants do not need any climbing experience or particular fitness level, though you do need to be comfortable with heights. The harness system means there is no physical exertion involved in the roof walk itself.
How It Fits With a Stadium Visit
The Dare Skywalk is a separate experience from the stadium tour. You can book it on its own or combine it with a tour of the stadium interior. Doing both gives you a comprehensive experience: the Skywalk for the external views and adrenaline, and the tour for the behind-the-scenes areas like the dressing rooms, tunnel and pitch-side.
The Skywalk runs on non-matchdays and needs to be booked in advance. Time slots fill up quickly during school holidays and weekends.
